What is MS?
Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic , often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms ma be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to people affected by the disease.
For people who have MS, the disease poses many challenges. The MS Society works to address care barriers, provide better health services, and reduce the costs of therapy. They also seek funding for more MS research and fight for the rights of MS patients.
Many of the families of MS patients are dedicated to helping find the cure through various fund raising activities. That includes Team Empirehouse and its participation in the MS 150 Bike Ride on June 6th to the 8th. This 150 mile bike trip from Duluth to the Twin Cities will take riders through a beautiful route on the Willard Munger Trail.
To help support our participants, we are sponsoring a dinner for our employees at the halfway point on Saturday night at the Grand Casino Camp Grounds in Hinckley, MN. We encourage our employees to attend. Jay Poidinger, who was diagnosed with MS in 2004, will be bringing his Empirehouse sponsored racecar for all to look at.
Mike Gilbert, whose wife Leah also suffers from MS, reports that at this point, their team has raised half of its goal of $10,000.00. If you are interested in supporting this cause with a donation, contributions can be made online at
